Honde Valley Agriculture

We are delighted to share with you our excitement at a new project which has started. This again comes about through the generosity of the Fellowship of St John. We recently sent out money to purchase land in the Honde Valley, on the eastern edge of Zimbabwe. This has been done and the first crop, Sugar Beans, has already started to grow.
The Honde Valley is a hot area with very good rainfall. Fr Phillip Mutasa, the TYP Chairman in Harare already has a small farm in the area and is overseeing this operation. One of the graduates from Tariro Youth Project, Dumisani Nguni who recently graduated in Food Science, will manage the project. They hope to produce good crops quite quickly which will have a good local sale. Dumisani is a very fine young man, very passionate about growing food. We hope this will provide employment for two or three other young men.
The pandemic has made all of us more aware of the disastrous consequences of climate change and the destruction of the environment. We have asked Tariro in Zimbabwe to make sure that this project is as eco-friendly as it can be and to use it as a way to make the other Tariro young people aware of the urgency of caring for our world.
