First batch of cabbages ready for harvest!

Posted in Honde Valley

3 November 2021

News from Dumisani at the Honde Valley farm: The first batch of cabbages are now ready for harvest and selling.  The second batch of 7,500 is now three weeks six days old and we continue to irrigate and monitor them. We are starting the second weeding and third nitrogen application this week.

For now we are looking at the local market at Murara and Hauna. We have made a few contacts at the vendors market in Hauna and they said they will be interested in buying. We are setting up a selling point at Zindi.

The second batch of 7,500 is looking good and we are maintaining the crop. We also have noticed that this time of the year the weed pressure is so high because of higher temperature so we are constantly weeding. There is however a smaller portion of land that we haven’t planted anything as yet. We will plant butternuts on the portion as they grow well during the rainy season.

The pigs have arrived safely. We are also grateful the roof was fixed. We have a new worker and he started on the 17th of October.
