Near the little town of Shurugwi is St Francis Mission, Nema. Here we have a group of 15 boys and girls in primary and secondary school. They live with relations but we ensure they have all they need for school. The area very dry and poor and crops often fail. Food is in short supply and there are no jobs locally.
The Church is the one community that can do something so we are helping the young people at St Francis to start a chicken project. This will bring them a small income, provide some welcome protein and teach them a skill which can help them in the future. If this works we hope to branch out into other agricultural work that will raise the standard of eating in this very poor community.
